Everyone has a story to tell, and mathematics is everywhere. So let us gather colleagues, friends, and family for a party: Math Storytelling Day! We celebrate this day on September 25. We read stories from the oldies like "The Rice and Chessboard" or "Infinity Hotel" to modern hits like "Mathemalchemy" or "Farzanah and the 17 Camels." We share jokes about hypotemooses and Pi-rates. We watch films from "Flatland: The Movie" to "Counted Out." We bake Sierpinski fractal cookies, draw Sona story-ornaments in the sand, and wear Möbius bracelets. And of course - of course! - we create and share mathematical stories of our own.
At the presentation, you can learn more about this quirky holiday, get an overview of organizations promoting mathematical fiction, and see what mathematical stories you have in you.
Happy Math Storytelling Day!
